She defeated team Homey the Clowneys 163.06 - 129.38 and had a nice 6-point cushion heading into Monday Night Football and one player remaining to play.

In perhaps the only time ever that a fantasy GM would actually want a player to sit OUT, Denver RB C.J. Anderson failed to lose yardage and fumble multiple times to surrender 6.5 FP needed for her to back out of a win, but that didn't stop me from pointing out the possibilities!

But all in all I was just having a little fun with her since the odds of her losing after Sunday's action were tiny, but the scoring towards the end of Sunday saw her 30-point lead quickly shrink to six where it found a settlement spot Sunday night.

The apparent swing in the balance of power came when DeMarco Murray broke his hand and was limited in action against Philadelphia. Had he been healthy, it would have made things on Monday Night Football quite a bit more exciting with Anderson's performance actually mattering.

However, it didn't come down to that but what's even more incredible about her victory over a 48-team mega-league is that she had to go through 3 fantasy quarterbacks, finishing with using Mark Sanchez of all people. A shrewd observer of fantasy football might notice that some QBs are better for their team on the field while others are better fantasy QBs than they are in actual games. Sanchez and until this past week, Jay Cutler fit squarely into this narrative.

Whatever the case, NSLS used Sanchez to win the title along with solid contributions from other players. I bet some of you are really wondering whom she had; well, here's a list:

As you can see, C.J. Anderson was no "threat" to have a poor outing and in fact wound up leading her entire team in scoring. Sanchez was second, and now longtime (for football) Packers WR Jordy Nelson was third on the day for the NSLS squad.

She had kind of an interesting mix of players to carry her to victory. Zach Ertz and Shane Vereen aren't names you see in fantasy leagues real often but Ertz especially had a nice week, scoring her 21 FP at the TE position. That, folks, is STRONG!

Being "Not So Lazy" here, she somehow got a rather non-scary-on-the-outside FFL team to outscore her opponent each week of the playoffs and that's the definition of victory....not having LAST year's top five scorers on your roster necessarily but it's obvious to me that she kept that waiver wire held close, and that likely is what really kept her talent "lively and timely" enough to get the job done each week.

Seriously, would most people have figured a Mark Sanchez-led team should win a FFL title? Probably not, but it just goes to show the different nature of FFL scoring vs. on-field NFL winning. The Whirly Girls here may have used a methodical approach without much in the form of glamour players; she won with the steak, not the sizzle.

At any rate, Not So Lazy Susans takes home the big prize of the year - the signed Kelvin Benjamin Jersey! At some point in the VERY near future, we hope to have her on the C3 podcast - goodness knows I have some questions for her!

For you other 46 GMs who lost along with me...I hope to see you all again next year and #KeepPounding

We're one player's game away from completing the first annual CarolinaCatChronicles.com fantasy league, and the Not So Lazy Susans are in the driver's seat to win it all!

She only has to overcome the possibility of a completely horrendous game from CJ Anderson, Denver's newly-found muscle back.

After getting out to a big lead, team Homey the Clowneys really roared back, closing a 30-point deficit down to only 6 fantasy points when all was said and done. The injury to DeMarco Murray is likely what soiled the Clown's funnypants, as his broken hand limited his effectiveness to 58 yards and a TD. Since the Cowboys had a huge lead at halftime, they were able to let Murray rest for the final week of play during the second half.

As it sits now, Susans have a 135.66 - 129.38 lead over the Homeboyz while the Susans await tonight's MNF game. C.J. Anderson would have to fumble multiple times and get like 2 yards or something for her to lose, so unless something completely insane happens, it looks like Not So Lazy Susans will win the match-up.

All Anderson has to do is score more than -6.28 FP tonight and she wins the whole thing.

I don't see him fumbling her title away even if he has a bad game, but this IS the NFL so I wouldn't celebrate until it's all over, but for all practical purposes, we'll all know how things are going to pan out fairly early into the game.

One decent run by Anderson should put it away nicely, or even a last-minute turf toe that keeps him out of the game would be welcome by the 'Susans, I'm sure!

It might seem a bit anti-climactic but it wasn't that way last night with her lead all but evaporating and when the Buffalo Bills TE, Scott Chandler, caught a TD pass in that struggling offense, all Homeys needed at that point was one more score from either him or Murray. Sadly for him, it was not to be...but kudos to Homeys for making the finals a virtual nail-biter!

The official announcement will be made when the games are ALL in the books and those books are completely closed.
Heido-ho virtual neighbors and virtual neighborettes! We've got some incredible news on the two semifinal matches to catch up with in the 1st Annual C3FF league that you DON'T wanna miss!

First, since I have your attention, I thought I'd share a couple of quick thoughts on this week's NFL action: Namely, that there seemed a lot less of it! We learned AR-12 is Human after all and that the Buffalo Bills have an exceptional defense. I'm of the mind that if they can grab a Wild Card spot, they're the dark horse for a Super Bowl run as far as I'm concerned. Should they do so, they'll be playing a bit in over their heads but hey - stranger things have happened.

Now, we have an NFC South with the Aints in the driver's seat, and the schedule looks favorable for them about now. They play Atlanta (who did beat them by 3 very early on) but I think the Saints have "caught a bid" and showed last night that there's a pretty decent difference between their level of play these days and that of the other NFL teams with similar records. Not surprising with Brees and Sean Payton, frankly. If the Panthers are now going to win it, they'll need to win-out and get help from either the Falcons or the Bucs. Now do you see why I'm a little pessemistic?

Now to the league results: *drum roll*

Homey the Clowney 123.7

vs

Fig Newtons 122.26

WOW! This was one nail-biter of a semi, wasn't it? It wasn't settled until late late last night and the MNF game as fruit and cake started a reeling Jay Cutler. For those of you who aren't familiar with it, there has been a ton of drama in Chicago recently, where their OC called out Jay Cutler, PUBLICLY, which understandably hurt Jay and the larger locker room in general. To his credit, Cutler responded to it with utmost professionalism saying "we addressed it, and it's a dead issue," which shows some maturity on his part that he hasn't always shown in the past. However, after being defeated again last night, Cutler certainly appeared defeated in the post-game presser. Coming into the game, fruit and cake had to feel pretty good about his chances. He only needed about 16 fantasy points out of Cutler to advance to the finals, but circumstances, ironically enough, caused the fall as Jay only scored 13.96 FP on the entire night. This, fellow FFL enthusiasts, is a stark lesson that despite the best draft (Fig Newtons did have the best draft in my league now that it's said and done), despite keeping an eye on the waiver-wire for risers, indeed - despite playing a very near-flawless GM job - a slip of the tongue of his FFL QB's Offensive Coordinator likely is what brought him down.

Unbelievable.

What about the children's nightmare? Well, Homey obviously managed juuust enough FP to do the job, but not without a cost. NFL leading rusher DeMarco Murray has a hand injury and for now is listed as "doubtful" for this weekend's FFL Championship Game. Injuries are always a blow when they happen, but this is absolutely the worst time. Perhaps he's better than we know and the Cowboys are pulling a gotcha and he plays Sunday...goodness knows the 'boys can use him in their NFC East Division title race. Despite a very tough trip for the Packers in Buffalo, Paleface here had Eddie Lacy get the fantasy points on a 108-yd rushing day with a TD - and those were surprisingly few and far between this week for the high-powered offense.

So, this puts Homey the Clowney in the finals. Just barely, but it might as well be a 101.5 FP win instead of a 1.5 FP win.

Rusty Nails 87.32

vs

Not So Lazy Susans 116.78

In more than a bit of irony, Not So Lazy Susans got shelled by her opponent within the 12-team league she's in, but that isn't what matters today. She's winning the games that MATTER, and that's the path of a champion. She did it with a very weak effort from Mark Sanchez, who her starting fantasy QB is; he had barely over 6 FP. Her fantasy QB luck (the Indy/Andrew variety of which has nothing to do with it) has been lousy. First Foles fell, then Hoyer got Johnny Footballed. Sanchez wasn't a bad replacement, given what was available, but his FP output has really declined after a nice start. She won her match-up here with plenty of room to spare, again, riding Eddie Lacy and C.J. Anderson to a solid win. Anderson's presence on her roster tells me she's also been actively watching the waiver wire and did a nice job picking him up before any of the 11 other teams in her league.

Lockjaw's squad just broke down this week in FP scoring, reflective of the NFL in general. Scoring was just way DOWN this week, and he couldn't find anyone to pick up the slack and certainly not 30+ FP worth as his high scorer was Mark Ingram of all people...and I think we all know by now New Orleans' backfield as far as FF scoring goes is about as unpredictable as that of New England or any given Mike "Shanahanigans" Shanahan running back during nearly any given game of a given year. The FP scoreboard just wasn't kind to Tetanus and unfortunately there can be only one C3FF league winner, which brings us to the Championship game:

We couldn't have asked for a better final match-up I don't think. It's great on more than a single level, too:

First and foremost, and at the risk of sounding a tad sexist, it's obvious that we have a lady in the finals. This should serve as notice for every guy out there who thinks "a girl can't...." well this girl daggum sure did!! And it's not even so much that a lady made the finals but one got into the finals being highly outnumbered by guys as GMs. There were four female GMs that I know of out of 48 teams. Probably a few more than I'm aware of are GMs too, but the vast majority was still guys. ANY notion that women aren't or can't be every bit as good as a guy doesn't know the veracity of the fan! Gender of the GM has zilch to do with ability, as she's proven and we all should know by now anyway. But she's gone out and proven it, and I think it's great. I think she MIGHT face a bit of an uphill climb in the Championship game but only due to her near-epic lousy luck with being on her 3rd starting QB, but it hasn't stopped her yet. All the MORE reason to fear this woman's ability! She has already gotten my respect by getting THIS far....with what amounts to a 3rd-string fantasy QB. Damn. Well done, lass....well done!

Homey the Clowney not-so-lazily OR hilariously powered his way through the league to the finals and holds roughly a 50 FP scoring advantage over the Whirly Girls...over 15 contests. That's barely a 3 FP cushion. He was 11-2 in his regular season while the 'Susans were 9-4. His fantasy QBs are Big Ben and Meg Ryan, so he has a nice luxury of playing match-ups this weekend where the Whirly Girls don't. I really think that, along with the 'Susans' Mark Sanchez and his apparently limited upside gives him a decided edge heading into the finals, but that's where the bad news stops. Sanchez faces that powerhouse Redskins defense, so anything is possible. Big Ben faces a talented Chiefs defense and Meg travels to the OTHER dome in the NFC South to go against that Saints team that has been improving so Yo Homey's decision won't be so simple while at least the 'Susans don't have to make a decision on her starter at the highest-scoring FFL position.

Both have Eddie Lacy, so they cancel completely which makes the OTHER match-ups even that much more critical, and the 'Susans have some strong help there. C.J. Anderson, Jordy Nelson is simply an FP-producing madman, and then there's Pittsburgh's do-everything WR Antonio Brown. If any of those guys explode - a distinct possibility - the pressure will really be on the Homey Funny Boys.

Homey's gotta be hoping DeMarco Murray can play this weekend or any advantage due to the QB situation not only gets nullified, but probably swings the needle back to Whirly Girls as for the "favorite" to win this contest. I think they're THAT closely balanced on talent and I think we'll be in for a great ride tracking the finals....starting this Thursday night.

Murray's having surgery to repair a broken left hand so I don't see it, but then again....these are tough guys called NFL players. This is the single story to watch that's related to the Championship game.

One thing is certain right now, and that's the fact that the winner of the contest gets that wonderful signed Kelvin Benjamin jersey! That's just such an incredible prize for one of the two GMs and I personally would love to see a picture of a smiling fan - whichever of the two it is - wearing that thing with a million-dollar smile once they receive it.

So who do you think it's gonna be? Homeys or Susans? Kids' Boogeyman or Whirly Girls?

I wrote an update the same day I had my last final, so I wasn't exactly 100% sharp. I merged an old draft with some added commentary and mixed weeks up. I do apologize, but anyone who has ever had final exams knows how you feel after that last test. Big relief, but have the mental ability of a parsnip for the rest of the day.

I hope anyone reading the previous piece at least got a chuckle. Laughter is a wonderful thing.

Anyhow, as I always say about such things, the important thing is getting it right, and that's what I'm doing here and will hopefully continue to do through the championship game.

Remember, It's also the first year we're doing this and as you can probably imagine, it's a learning experience for all of us. I'm pretty sure next year and subsequent years we can look back at issues we encounter (remember, it's all "new" to us here, too) and we'll know what potholes are coming up for the most part and can be PRO-active about it instead of RE-active. That's the idea, anyway.

Just for fun, let's look at how the games turned out last week and my "picks" - still can't believe I'm thinking fruit and cake wins this league - but here goes:

Not So Lazy Susans (Minter) - 149.94
vs
@KeepPounding (Mills) - 127.04

Comments: Both teams won their local-league matchups, so it's not surprising this contest was fairly high-scoring. Packers players Jordy Nelson (32.6 FP) and Eddie Lacy (27.7 FP) both came through big-time for the Twirly Girls, which she needed as the Professor's comment on this during the games was more than a little prescient. The 'Pounders got all their eggs from two baskets; that of Cam Newton (37.74 FP) and DeMarco Murray (44.7). However, he had no other fantasy players even hit double-digits, and that was probably his downfall.

Not So Lazy Susans (Minter) advances.

Rusty Nails (Mills) 170.34
vs.
Show Me Your TDs (Minter) 136.78

Comments: Ironically, Rusty Nails won this match-up with room to spare while losing his regular league match-up to Kuech'n it Old School, who scored 184.42. However, that's irrelevant here but I wanted to illustrate how these FFL games and scores can really change depending on NFL team and individual player match-ups. Lockjaw here generated a ton of FP anyway with big performances by four different players - Matt Stafford (27.84), Jamaal Charles (28.1), Jordy Nelson (32.6) and Julio Jones (40.4). Those four players alone (128.94 FP combined) nearly defeated the guy in the trench coat, attempting to flash everyone with TDs, but came up...ah...."short." He did have DeMarco Murray and T.Y. Hilton with huge games, but it wasn't enough. Things get really intense in the playoffs and several players having "down days" can sink you. For example, the usual FP-generating machine, Demaryius Thomas, only had 2.1 FP on 11 receiving yards. It's just one of those things that happens to us all - like me, when two weeks ago I lost what would have been a main-league playoff berth (you're welcome, Kony Island!) because Jimmy Graham got completely shut out. Had he scored 4.5 FP, I'd have won. As I keep saying...."oh well; that's fantasy football for ya!"

Rusty Nails (Mills) advances.

Fig Newtons (Rucker) 208.84
vs.
I Am Your Father (Muhammed) 82.62

Comments: Wow. As you can see, this wasn't even close. Fruit and Cake showed Hoosier Daddy who his daddy really IS - at least this past week! Justin Forsett and Steven Jackson were the only producers for Baby Daddy, but he did have Peyton Manning (3.12 FP), who normally scores about ten TIMES that many FP, so Hoosier Daddy simply got caught in a meat grinder/Press Your Luck-style Whammy this week and doubly so....a real down week for his studs while Fruit and Cake had a phenomenal week, even for him. Le'Deveon Bell (I quit trying to spell his first name correctly long ago) had another "career" game - he has had several this season - and topped 50 FP alone. Jay Cutler, T.Y. Hilton, and Jamaal Charles all had 25+ FP as well. Now do you see why Fig Newtons is my pick to win it all?

Fig Newtons (Rucker) advances.

Kony Island (Rucker) 132.2
vs
Homey the Clowney (Muhammed) 147.5

Comments: Here, we have the closest match-up of the playoff games as the Clowns scared the Hot Dog Eaters juuuust enough to eke-out a win. The big three "Tears of the Clown" drove him to victory; they are Big Ben (35.1 FP), Eddie Lacy, and DeMarco Murray. The Hot Dogs were cooked despite solid showings by Matt Forte (22.6), C.J. Anderson (28 FP), and Jordy Nelson. Only 15.3 FP separated the two teams, and Gilligan's Islanders even had Anderson on a career day (3 TDs). In Denver, SOMEONE has to get the FPs and it wasn't anyone in the passing game, so C.J. kept this one close for Gilligan....the Skipper, too....but no cigar was given.

Homey the Clowney (Muhammed) advances.

Well, lookie what we have here, to quote Biff from Back to the Future: EACH of the four satellite leagues sends one representative apiece to the "Final Four," and that is called BALANCE, folks. We couldn't have planned it any better if we wanted to.

I went 3-1 in my "picks" for the winners, despite it being after the fact, and I promise I hadn't looked at anything other than stuff like Subnet Masks, DNS servers, DHCP servers, default gateways and the like, ugh! Interesting in its own way, but certainly not a fun pursuit on the level of fantasy football!

Going by the brackets, here are the last two match-ups before Championship Week next week:

Fig Newtons vs. Homey the Clowneys

and

Rusty Nails vs. Not So Lazy Susans

Congratulations to the four finalists! Be SURE to update your rosters before tonight's game - Arizona against those shutout-pitchin' fools, the St. Louis Rams.

NOW we're on the right track, I believe! I REALLY appreciate everybody's patience and understanding on the recent confusion but again, I think the important thing is that we get it right in the end, which we've now done.

Again, keep in mind that we all are just fans here at C-Cubed like you all are and we have other "life" things that must take priority - the same as you guys and gals do - and doing the best we can. It's really a bit of a task running 4 12-team leagues simultaneously and drawing a playoff pool to form a 5th league for championship purposes...all while having to study furiously for finals(!!)

That said, I just want to reiterate my thanks to each and every GM out there for that patience and understanding as we here at C-Cubed are finding this to be a learning experience as well as a lot of fun. Next season, once again, I'm sure will run a lot smoother now that we've gone through an entire regular season and are in the midst of the playoffs. Things will almost certainly go much smoother next year as we'll have had a year of experience under our belts and that alone should help a lot since we'll know what to expect.

- The Commish

P.S. In case anyone wondered on my finals, yes, it was worth it. I got an "A" in my Networking class and a "B" in my PC Hardware class. I was the only "A" in Networking and nobody had an "A" in PC Hardware, so I'm plenty happy with the results from my hard work. I'll take a 3.5 GPA any day, even if it was "only" two classes - trust me, those two were nearly like a full-time job.

Oh - in case anyone wondered about THIS - the port for the Network Time Protocol is port 123. You may sleep well tonight now that I have answered such a nagging question....

Eh, probably not all that much. I'm an old man (47) going to school and had my first final exam week in ages, so the staff here at CarolinaCatChronicles has been pitching in to help with getting the playoffs seeded and all the behind-the-scenes stuff one has to do to run a website.

That's my excuse for just missing out on the playoffs and I'm sticking to it. I probably could have fielded a slightly better squad especially towards the end, but life has priorities and besides, it's fun to see fans enjoying things and one will win that signed Kelvin Benjamin jersey! WOOT! Now THAT is a kickderriere prize if I may say so!

Let's take a look at the matchups we have going on:

First, We have @Keep_Pounding (League Mills) vs. the Not So Lazy Susans (League Minter.)

Considering the NFL games last week, I'd say both teams are well-named. Unfortunately, 'Pounding has Cam Newton as his starting QB and we all know by now what has taken place. A FFL post isn't the place to get into it very much, but suffice it to say Cam was very unlucky to get in such a bad accident - his vehicle flipped 3 or 4 times according to witnesses - but he is VERY lucky to come out of it with "only" a couple of cracked bones. I'm sure he had on his seat belt so everyone take heed of his experience going forward.

As for this match-up, it's unfortunate that @Keep_Pounding doesn't carry a backup QB, which I find a bit surprising considering Cam's questionable health all year. Even I held on to Joe Slacco after Brady Boy's bye week, but it is what it is. He'll have to beat a very strong Not So Lazy Susans with a Waiver-Wire QB.

Next up, we have team Show Me Your TDs (League Minter) vs. Rusty Nails (League Mills.) Let's all hope 'TDs' Tetanus shot is up to date or he could get Lockjaw. At least, that's what I heard when I was a kid.

At any rate, 'Nails' guys seem to be going up against a TON of mediocre teams this week, and that could well give him an edge against 'TDs who goes up against teams like Denver, Seattle and Philly. Anything can happen though, so we'll see.

Next up are Fig Newtons (League Rucker) and I am Your Father (League Muhammed).

I personally think the Fig Newtons are the team to beat as he has torn UP League Rucker and is on a 12-game winning streak featuring the likes of Le'Veon Bell, Jamaal Charles, Rob Gronkowski, T.Y. Hilton, and even Jay Cutler who is a much better FFL QB than on-field QB.

The answer to "Hoosier Daddy?" has Peyton Manning, however, and we should all know he's capable of a 50-point fantasy outing at any given time, so this should be a very interesting contest but I think the Apple Noggins have too much depth of talent with all the names I mentioned for 'Father to outscore.

Finally, we have Kony Island (League Rucker) vs. Homey the Clowney (League Muhammed.)

I gotta say Kony Island is a tough team. He is in my division in League Rucker and a thorn in my side more than any other team. His team seems so diverse that when one guy tanks someone else takes up the slack and those on Gilligan's Island actually don't seem to have bad weeks...just good ones and great ones, so watch out for this guy!

It will probably come down to how Big Ben, DeMarco Murray, and Eddie Lacy do. That's Homey's "Triplets." All 3 of those fellows are playing on the road this week and Lacy faces a stout Buffalo Bills defense. The Pack is certainly used to playing in cold weather, however, and Lacy could see carries in the 2nd half to shorten the game while the Pack is up 3 TDs or something. I think Kony Island takes this one just because of the way the matchups fall.

Hmm, it would appear that the Commish may not be so "partial" after all - I've got both my Rucker league opponents advancing and Fig Newtons picked to win it all. Familiarity in this game doesn't breed contempt, but rather a lot of respect. Plus, I picked "fruit and cake" to win everything. So just keep that in mind.

Commish's Picks:

Not So Lazy Susans over @Keep_Pounding

Rusty Nails over Show Me Your TDs

Fig Newtons over I Am Your Father

Kony Island over Homey the Clowney

You winners that I chose are now officially jinxed.

But first, I wanted to share with you exactly HOW razor-thin some of these margins can be. One TD, one penalty, one dropped pass one player missing part of one game....any of these things actually CAN and often DO make the difference in your FFL team making the playoffs and sitting at home - I'm a case in point.

Two weeks ago, I lost my matchup to team Ron Top of the World by 4.2 FP. That's the equivalent of a QB tossing a 5-yard TD pass - 4 FP for the TD pass and 0.2 for 5 yards. That's it. If Ahmad Bradshaw hadn't broken his foot and left the game early, he likely would have scored more than the 4.5 FP he scored in the first half.

I'm not sitting here making excuses as to why I didn't win my league. All teams have to deal with the same issues at some point or other. With the head-to-head format, match-ups matter and I'm trying to illustrate how and why details and due diligence matter.

Had any one of the "breaks" (no pun intended, Ahmad) gone my way that week, however, I'd have been the WC winner because I'd have won the tiebreaker. I also had the top-scoring team in my division which would have put me in first place in a points-only league, but we don't like those because it's nearly impossible to catch up those last couple of weeks and it's an anti-climactic format.

I simply want to impress upon any owners who might be a little down for not making the playoffs this year. Remember - only 1 team in 4 makes it, and the point I made above is just your Beloved Commish's way of passing along my own league's experience to the rest of you. That's why you #KeepPounding in both the NFL and in FFL games. You work hard, do your research (film study in the NFL's case), put your best guys out there to start the game and let the chips fall where they may.

If you're ever in a league where you need to put together a few wins towards the end just to have a chance, play each game as if it were your last. You never know when it'll be YOUR turn to get a hot team with a number of guys getting hot at the same time and making YOUR team nearly unstoppable. I had that happen in mid-season when I out-scored all 47 teams in 2 of 3 weeks, and had the second-highest total that 3rd week.

If it can happen to me, it can happen to anyone!

That said, I and everyone here at C-Cubed wanted to thank everyone for participating, we hope to see you next season, and don't forget to keep putting your lineups in - we DO have the "consolation round" to go!

As things turned out, Both myself and my opponent had "down" weeks and my team sitting Antonio Brown for his bye week didn't help. However, I needed about 14 from my one MNF player to win the match-up.

That one guy was a healthy Jimmy Graham, who had 19.7 FP when all was said and done. The Saints certainly seemed to do their best early to not give him any chances, running the ball (and failing) 4 consecutive times against the Ravens' run-stuffing defense. I guess Sean Payton isn't the "genius" we all thought he was, huh?

I had picked up Jonas Gray after his 4-TD performance the previous week, and stupidly started him. I had heard something about him oversleeping for a team meeting and I should have known Bill Belichick was going to put him in the doghouse, but have been very busy lately and I didn't make the FFL connection. Kenny Britt had a TD....that was called back. And with Arian Foster out and starting his back-up in Alfred Blue, I knew it would be a tough week to win but the FFL gods smiled upon me for a 109-104 victory. I'll take it.

Okay - now to the fun stuff. Actually, it has to do with a play made on Sunday night....I think most of you know what I'm talking about.

Odell Beckham, Jr.

I don't think I've ever seen social media light up the way it did in the immediate aftermath of "The Snare" that Beckham made with 3 fingers for a TD in a losing effort against the Cowboys. Many are saying it's the best-ever NFL catch. While it certainly wasn't made in a big game like a Super Bowl where ANOTHER Giant catch rules...."The Helmet Catch" by David Tyree. So while the Giants may be having problems, Head Coach Tom Coughlin was the single common denominator....oh, along with Eli Manning's random throws of course!

Trivia: I bet you didn't know "The Helmet Catch" was Tyree's final NFL reception.

Fantasy prize winner of the week is.....@aidendrakesdad!! Congrats to the Twitter-handle team for being the ONLY FFL team GM to have the smarts to start the RAMS defense, who scored a league-high 24 FP this week! I say kudos to him for having the brains to make that call - you deserve this week's prize!
Week 11 was a strange one, and certainly disappointing for us Panthers fans. Unfortunately, that's been the rule rather than the exception this season.

Yours truly had a similar experience in the C3FFL this past week. I thought I was gonna be a sure loser, rallied, and couldn't quite make up the difference as Ahmad Bradshaw broke his foot...then again, my opponent, Ron Top of the World, left Percy Harvin in on his bye week. Even his bench scored more than double my bench, and I lost 99-95.

Oh well, it happens. Kudos to team RTW for winning a very close matchup!

As for the contest winner for most total yardage, that honor goes to team ImRonBurgandy of league Muhammed with 1003 total yards! Just for giggles, I looked at my own team. Since I have Tom Brady, who did very little other than hand the ball off last week to Jonas Gray, I had a measly 594 total yards so I knew I wasn't in the running. Congrats, Ron! I'm sure you have something bizarrely inappropriate to say about it! :)
Remember, set your lineups before Thursday night. We're going down to the wire and here are the updated league standings:
I had half my team on the bench due to bye weeks (Brady, Foster, and A. Bradshaw) and had to start 2 TEs in Jimmy Graham and Travis Kelce just to have a valid roster. I still managed 123 FP, helped greatly by the Panthers' complete ineptitude on offense last night.

It's usually a poor showing when a defense is your top scorer, and I started the Philadelphia Eagles with their opportunistic defense against the Panthers. I had to start Joe Slacko during Brady's bye week and Slacko only had 11 FP for me. Hey, that's why he's a back-up. But the Eagles' D put up 36 FP for me...."holy shaving cream, Batman!" I know - surprised me too, but I felt so strongly a ball-hawking defense against our completely inept offense could really rack up FP, and I was right. They just couldn't get the 6 TDs and 15 sacks I needed to win my overall match-up!

Well, last night team Catch Me if you Cam couldn't be caught. I still had the 5th-highest FP total in my league despite my bye-week blues, but Catch Me if you Cam had his full complement including Peyton Manning, DeMarco Murray, Dez Brant and Brandon Marshall. Kudos to CMiyC in leading League Rucker with 168.3 FP last week - well done! Too bad you couldn't come up with an original name (there's another team with the same name in League Mills), but it's all about the fantasy points. You could have the coolest and most original name, but if you're in last place by this point, your name is Mudd - the doctor who cared for John Wilkes Booth's broken leg he suffered after assassinating President Lincoln. Yep, that's where the saying comes from.

This week's contest isn't about who did so well but rather who had the least-productive fantasy team out of all the "lower 48." Who might THAT be?

That distinction of futility goes to team 4JHustle in League Minter. From the looks of things, he was actively trying to get this award since he didn't bother to switch out DeSean Jackson OR Reggie Wayne who are on bye weeks.

Ooookaaaay then. I guess it just goes to show you CAN SUCK if you really want to. That's easy...it's winning and scoring lots of fantasy points that is the hard part! At least he'll have a prize to show for it! I'm not sure if congrats or condolences are in order, but this week's prize is yours.
Week nine was a bit bizarre in its own way as most NFL weeks are. Denver flattened in Foxboro. Dolphins drain Chargers. And the Arizona Cardinals are for REAL, folks....

....and so is your Commish. Yes, once again, I turned in the Rucker League's highest score with 156.82 FP, not too far off the pace of the best score for the week. That honor goes to Boomshockalocka in the Minter League with 162.82 FP for the week.

You slackers are getting a bit better with things - I didn't score the most FP for the 3rd time in 4 weeks - I was second. However, that will change radically this coming week as I have the great honor of benching Tom Brady, Arian Foster, and Ahmad Bradshaw.

Yeah....I have to start my backup QB in Joe Slacko. Wunnerful.

Oh well, the ride was fun while it lasted. 1,239 FP so far, leading all 48 teams in FP scored. Wow. And I should add another 50 to that next week, ha!

This week's contest is the Primetime Blowout - Largest margin of victory. That honor goes to team Proehlific in the Muhammed league. Proehlific defeated a bungling Toldozer squad, 154.06-69.22 for a MOV of 84.84 FP. That's way more than double what his opponent even scored! Well done, Proehlific! I'm sure you, the FFL GM, weren't sweating your chances this week!
Congrats to Gano......

They also happen to be my opponent this week but it looks like he was going for the short-term car flag prize, as he's 3-5 and in last place in the division. Can't really blame him for trying to win SOMETHING! Well done!

Gano...... started, well, Graham Gano (4 FP last night), Kelvin Benjamin (2.8 FP), Cam Newton (13.74 FP), and his star for the week so far is Mark Ingram (32.5 FP). I managed to keep pace somewhat, with only one player going (Jimmy Graham) and tallying 17.8 FP.

So congrats again to Gano When to Foles Em in the Rucker League! I don't think Mel Mayock ever got the flags sent to him, so we'll make sure the car flags get sent your way.

Gotta give kudos to Mediocre Mel for making this possible. Without his mediocrity, the week's prize would have gone to someone else who probably wouldn't have been so kind as to put it back in the "kitty" there for another GM.

Enjoy!
I am dealing with a bunch of SLACKERS anymore!

You "other 47" teams have let Your Commissioner outscore each and every one of you for the second time in three weeks!

Slackers I say! Just think of the bald-headed school guy from "Back to the Future." Slackers!

Indeed, the Carolina Rifles had 212.16 FP this week. Read the points and CRY, folks! :)

The second place guy was 212.06, so it isn't like I obliterated the entire field. Just almost the entire field. Oh - I am now in first place in my division after tiebreakers of points scored.1,082.78...only team Show Me Your TDs in league Minter is higher over the entire season. Tough division too with 4 teams at 5-3, one at 4-4, and the last place one is at 3-5.

Okay, enough of my trash talking. Hey, I earned the right with my team's recent performance. Tom Brady, Arian Foster, and Antonio Brown haven't hurt. An no Tony Romo to fumble the game away!

Anyhow - to the point. This week is the "Even Steven" Award to the team that scored the 24th most fantasy points last week. At least I know I didn't win this week's prize. Who did?

Team "Where'dOurMonstersGo?" won the Humdrum slot of the week, finishing 24th overall in FP scored with 123.86, and that would be our own Mel Mayock of CarolinaCatChronicles! Oh, this is great too. Not only can I yank his chain about being the "most mediocre team," he'll have the prize to prove it. I feel a fit of the giggles coming on a la Mel's last podcast appearance.

I have to admit, while doing the actual calculation wasn't difficult, it was a little eye-crossing looking at all the close scores and decimals. A quick note on the methodology I used:

What I did was eliminated the highest scorers first, so I started with MYSELF, ha! I worked backwards until I hit 16 teams, then the scores started to bundle around the center of that Bell curve, so I worked backwards in the 140s, then the 130s, and when I hit the 120s, I saw that THAT was the area where the needle would get hit. So, I started with the highest in the 120s and counted in descending order to find the 24th highest score. Since the game lists each team's weekly scores in the left-hand column, all I had to do was open 4 browsers, set one for each league, and compare.

Since "Mel" is a member of C-Cubed, I triple checked to make sure he is the righteous winner, and he is. I re-checked by counting the number of each teams scoring MORE than 123.86 in each league and that answer was 23, verifying the calculation as correct.

As usual, I'm posting the update overall team standings below:
With the way the rest of the NFC South is playing, I'm thinking 7-7-2 could win this division.

Whatevah! I say that because Stah Set the Bah wins this week's C-Cubed fantasy football prize for Most Yards Passing. Four teams started Andrew Luck who led the NFL in passing for the week with 344 yards.

However, the tiebreaker is FP scored, and Stah Set the Bah quite high with 158.56 for the week, greatly out-distancing the second-place team who had 117 FP.

But I GOTTA give a shout-out to Where'dOurMonstersGo in League Mills. He led the C3 FFL in total FP scored last week with 170.66! That is TORCHIN' folks!

It also happens to be the second consecutive week one of the crew here at CarolinaCatChronicles.com has led the entire 48-team field in fantasy points scored. Last week, it was yours truly with 186.24 and this week it's our own Mel Mayock with the 170+.

The rest of you folks gotta get on the ball! You're letting Mel and myself put the SMACKDOWN on you recently, and fantasy football isn't about how you start, it's about how you finish in the playoffs.

Maybe we need to make a prize for any team that out-scores either Mel or myself, whoever had the better score between us? I'll reach into my own personal money and offer not a case, but a pack of Ramen Noodles....

My own week came down to Monday night as my opponent had about a 2 or 3-point lead heading into last night, but I wasn't worried. His kicker, Shane Suisham, had yet to play, but I had both Arian Foster and Antonio Brown going and they were the offensive stars of their relative teams last night. Besides, if I can't beat a kicker with my top WR and top RB, I don't deserve to win. But I pulled away to win fairly comfortably, 131-112. Antonio Brown's TD pass didn't hurt, either.

Now that the housekeeping is taken care of, here are the current league standings:

As this is our first season doing a fantasy league and it's my own first experience with FleaFlicker.com, I didn't see where I could set a trade deadline on the league page so I'm just going to post this so there will be a public record of it for all to see.

The league trade deadline is going to be in the middle of WEEK NINE (9) - NO trades may be initiated after midnight on Wednesday, October 28th - two weeks from today.

The trade deadline is so that teams can't take advantage of knowing/not knowing they'll make the playoffs and load up/fire sale their teams. I doubt that would occur in this league, but this is one way to help to ensure that and let everyone know across the board that any trades initiated after this time will be automatically voided by me - NO EXCEPTIONS!

This doesn't mean you can't still work the Waiver Wire, however. That part is good all season long.

If you want or need to make roster moves by then, you might want to go ahead and think about the specifics so you and the other party can figure things out and make the trade(s) you want to make before the deadline.

Enter a trade on Tuesday, October 27th at 11:59 pm? You're good to go.

Enter a trade on Wednesday, October 28th at 12:00 am? I put the kibosh on it.

That's all for now, and everyone have fun!

- The CommishAnonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17084436465889727729noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7842608501392513812.post-47917987646957615012014-10-14T03:07:00.001-07:002014-10-14T11:51:16.231-07:00C3 Fantasy Wrap-Up Week 6Hey again ladies and germs, another week is in the books. Hard to believe we're a THIRD of the way through the NFL's regular season already, isn't it? The Panthers kissed their sister this weekend and did so a stomach-churning 37 times. I would understand, but only if we were in West Virginia.

Anyhow, let's take a glance at the league standings and our contest winner for the week. Just to remind people, this week the contest was for "smallest margin of victory," but first let's see which team had the top score for the week.

Oh! That's right....*I* was the top scorer this week! Well, congrats to ME, NYAHH!!! Team Carolina Rifles fired off quite a volley last week, scoring a whopping 186.24 FP - and achieving a 100%/fully "optimum" scoring week. This means everyone I started was the highest-possible scorer for that slot. Of course, half my bench was on a BYE week, so that helped, but when you score 186 FP you're doing something right!

Tom Brady, Arian Foster, Branden Oliver, Mohamed Sanu, and the Philadelphia Eagles defense all had at least 24 FP - each - while Ahmad Bradshaw and Antonio Brown each turned in a hair over 15 FP. That's a potent week, but all it did in the end was help me keep the pace, still 2 games back from the division leader at 3-3.

Yeah, I mention this all to toot my OWN horn a bit - how often will any given team lead 48 total teams in scoring in a week? It's pretty rare.

The OTHER reason I mention it is to point to a guy named Branden Oliver. He's yet another example of a mid-season pick-up that can really make a big difference for you. Oliver, a rookie UFA, is filling in for perennial fantasy dud Ryan Matthews at RB while Matthews recovers from injury and Danny Woodhead is gone for the year.

You see, once again, I want to prove how having even kind of a BAD draft doesn't mean doom and gloom, or if you get several stars injured, scour that waiver wire. SOMEONE has to replace their production, and it's not always as murky as the receiver situation in Cleveland. Ryan's hurt, Woodhead's hurt, Oliver was the next batter up. Mix in a rookie with really too many skills not to have been drafted with a hot, rising San Diego "Supa" Chargers team, and the results are an explosion of fantasy points.

As more and more injuries occur, keeping current on a fluid personnel situation and claiming the "next man up" on waivers can really be fantasy gold. Oliver scored 26.6 FP for me last week, a total surpassed by few other backs. Arian Foster was one, however, with 32.6.

The points are out there - it's just a matter of you being alert enough to find them. Here are the current league standings...and my apologies for not including them last week:
There were a LOT of close contests this week. Several games were decided by just a few fantasy points. Sure, I won MY match-up by over a hundred points this week, but some of you had to have been pulling your hair out all the way down to the wire this week. Without further ado, the winner of this week's "Close but no Cigar" contest is.....

....I Am Your Father from League Muhammed! I Am Your Father schooled Stah Set The Bah, squeaking out a 119.08-118.3 win, a 0.78 margin of victory! Congrats to I Am Your Father! Sheesh I kinda feel like I know what it's like to live in Bwahston now....

It's utterly amazing to me to be mentioning Tom Brady as a pleasant fantasy surprise, but it has taken the New England offense this long to get into gear. Naturally, I have him on my fantasy team and sat him in favor of Joe Flacco, who had less than half Tom's FP.

Thankfully, however, it didn't cost me a win as I still managed to take down 13 Degrees of Kelvin Benjamin by a score of 112.1-89.54, raising my record to 2-3, but still clinging to last place in my division where only 50 FP separates first and last place. Lots of fantasy football left to be played, as we're about a third of the way through now if you include the FFL playoffs.

Congrats to team Greensboro Gray Wolves for winning this week's contest!! Greensboro had the most fantasy points by Carolina Panthers, using Graham Gano's solid 8 FP for a kicker while the defense put up 21 FP in a solid effort against the Bears despite being put in horrible field position multiple times by turnovers.

Speaking of which, my own defenses hadn't been posting much scoring so I trolled the waiver wire only to find the Philadelphia Eagles sitting there. Yes, last year's worst NFL defense is this year's fantasy gold since they tend to create turnovers and score on a number of them and rewarded my vigilance with a whopping 25 fantasy points.

My point there isn't to beat my chest over it but to underscore how important it is to keep an eye on that waiver wire! It's going to be the managers who stay on top of things and reacts to ever-changing NFL news that wins this whole schmeer, I will bet you dollars to navy beans!

Top scorers? Let's see....in my league, the Rucker one, this week's top scorer was ChiveOn with 149.54 FP. A close second in another matchup in Rucker league was the Fig Newtons with 145.86. I noticed Fig Newtons had ever single player in double digits except the kicker, Dallas' Dan Bailey, who had 9. That's the way to do it consistently - not so much have a "star" or two that often get 20 or more FP but have those "stinker" games mixed in. Knowing your team and whom you can count on is one key while knowing the matchups is another.

In league Muhammed, team I Am Your Father IS my daddy this week with 158.86 FP. What's scary is the "Optimum" points for him was 171.86 so he still had some of his powder dry, woah! Peyton Manning's 479 yard, 4-TD performance didn't hurt either.

But it just gets better: In league Mills, team Show Me Your TDs sure lived up to his name, scoring an incredible 177.82 FP in his win. He had no Peyton Manning, but RB DeMarco Murray continues to chew up the field with 29.4 FP last week while his top WR, yes, was Demaryius Thomas on a career day of 43.6 FP (!!!) His is one of the more "fun" fantasy weeks as Thomas got 19.1 FP on a single play...an 86-yard TD catch. Do the math. 0.5 FP for the catch, 8.6 FP for the yardage, 6 FP for the TD, and 4 FP for the TD of 80 or more yards as a bonus.

Rounding out the top scorers in league Mills was a recent contest winner of the LEAST FP scored, which just goes to show how much your team can change its FP output from week to week. The lady scored 156.84 and was the only one of the top scorers to be 100% optimal on FP scored, so she made the most of what she's got.

Everyone keep on making trade offers if you want to - I haven't had to veto any submitted trades yet (and don't expect to need to, but still....) so keep on thinking up combos to hopefully put you over the top!
